Barcode Scanners
Barcode Scanning EPOS Systems
Most of our ECRs and PC-based terminals can be connected to bar code scanners.
There are four main types of bar code scanners. The type which is most suitable for you depends on the kind of products you sell and the type of business you run. Certain businesses require two scanners to be connected, a hand-held scanner for heavy goods that cannot be lifted onto the checkout and a presentation or flatbed scanner for goods on the checkout belt.
The four main categories are
- Handheld Scanners with a single beam which may be laser or CCD, suitable for use in non-food and slower businesses. These are the least expensive. Some of the better models can be used in a triggerless mode on a stand as a presentation scanner.
More
- Hand-held/presentation omni-directional laser scanners. These can operate hand-held as a single beam or on a stand as an omni-directional presentation scanner. Suitable for use in faster businesses but not ideal for checkout use.
More
- Presentation scanners can be used in fast and checkout operations. They are vertically mounted and have some advantages over flatbed scanners in that they cost less , can be picked up to scan heavy items and the glass cannot be scratched or damaged in normal use.
More - Flatbed, built-in scanners are normally only used in supermarket checkout environments and are the most expensive. If you have a requirement for a scale at the point of sale, there are dual purpose flatbed scale/scanners available.

Here at Long Business Systems, we supply mostly Metrologic and the Geller range of scanners.
